February 11 - International day of women and girls in science

"To rise to the challenges of the 21st century, we need to harness our full potential. That requires dismantling gender stereotypes. On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, let’s pledge to end the gender imbalance in science."

UN Secretary-General António Guterres (https://www.unwomen.org/en/news/in-focus/international-day-of-women-and-girls-in-science)

This quote, extracted from the United Nations website, indicates precisely what appears to keep women away from science: that numbers and science are difficult and that men are more capable of pursuing careers in those areas. Despite all the efforts carried out by schools, universities, research institutes, ONGs, amongst others, the number of girls enrolling in scientific careers remains low. On a day like today, February 11, it is fundamental to reflect and promote gender equality at all levels. Society requires the participation of women as teachers, researchers, speakers and motivators of others towards learning about subjects that require further studies.

More importantly, we should ask ourselves: what am I doing today to eliminate mental barriers and aim at learning more about the world and Universe surrounding me? What message am I sending children surrounding me about what areas are restricted to men and women? How am I challenging myself to take up a new hobby that allows me to question my relationship with nature and learn more about it?
