How To Incorporate A New Language Into Your Daily Life

Learning a new language takes a lot of time, we all know that. However, there are a few ways to speed up the process. It's crucial that when learning a new language you utiliize it on a daily basis, that way you don't forget grammar and vocabulary already learned and can build upon it as well. I always tell my students to practice speaking English with anyone they can but sometimes that can be difficult. Most of their friends or family members may not speak the language so they are only able to really practice during lesson hours. So if a student wants to continue practicing on their own time I always suggest a few key ways they can incorporate learning into their daily routine.

Language Learning Apps
This is one of the best ways to keep the knowledge that you acquired during a lesson fresh in your mind. There are so many different apps that are available which are free that keep your grammar and vocabulary skills up to date. It's not the same as being able to speak with another individual and have a full conversation but it's still really good practice. I always say 15-20 min spent on a train ride or waiting for a bus everyday can be used on an app that can help increase your level overtime.

Podcasts, Movies, Music
Another great way to brush up on your language skills is to listen to the language that you are learning. Not only are their podcasts available to listen to in order to learn a new language but if you're on a more advanced level then listening to a podcast in the language you are learning is even better. You really begin to understand different ascents within the language and learn new vocabulary as well. Watching movies with subtitles is another great way to practice learning a new language without feeling overwhelmed. The same goes with music. The best advice I always give is that if you're enjoying the time you're learning you will absorb much more information without even realizing it .

Write Down Anything You Want To Learn

Whether it be a new word or phrase, always write it down and then show your teacher for them to explain for you. I have many students that do this and I'm always more than happy to help. Not only do you learn the spelling of a new word but when you write it down it's another way for your brain to remember. This can come from anything: books, music, or movies, if there is something that you want to understand make sure to get it down and then you'll remember to pick it up later.
