Bring on 2020 Online Learning!
Like everybody else, at the beginning of this year I had no idea what was to come. Back in January 2020, little did I expect for the entire world to be turned topsy turvy within a few months. As a student approaching the final hurdle of a degree, the graduation almost within reach, coronavirus blasted all organised and carefully thought through plans away.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. Tutoring in my final year at university and completing an online TESOL/ TEFL certification helped guide me into the online teaching world which, after careful research, led me to Oxinity. Instead of teaching in person, Oxinity’s platform has opened up a vast array of potential students of whom I would not have had the chance to meet otherwise. Although the online experience is comparatively new to traditional teaching methods, for many it removes irritating geographical obstacles that allows for more comfortable and flexible learning at the student’s discretion. Initially, I was nervous of using online learning, however I am incredibly excited to see where this fantastic platform takes me and my career.
So far I have worked primarily with younger students, particularly ages 6-17. Working with younger students brings an energy and enthusiasm that brightens up your day. When I worked with young Spanish students, it was thrilling to see the great progress they made throughout the year - some ten year olds had better grammar than my friends! However, I would love the opportunity to teach a wider range of ages including adults who are hoping to expand their academic English.
2020 has certainly been a year of turmoil and ruckus. I hope to bring some much-needed positivity and humour to my classroom, to make my students feel relaxed and enjoy their learning journey. Bring on the rest of the year!
