If you immediately responded ‘yes’ in your head, follow my advice and you will be surprised how easily you can acquire new vocabulary and how much fun you can have in the process.
The beauty of books is that you can take as much time for them as you want. You are the boss of the learning process and the more interesting the book is the quicker you will be improving your English.
Learning through reading is effortless. You are simply enjoying the great story and at the same time you are enhancing your knowledge of the language, you spot and fixate patterns of English grammar and you learn many fabulous new words.
1. Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl
Even though it’s a novel for children, I always recommend this book to beginners and low intermediate levels for its simple language and fun story. And of course, it is a great novel to read with kids. They love it!
2.The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
Hemingway’s classic is easily the best introduction to reading in English. The author is famous for his clear language and short sentences, the story is captivating and yet the book is only around 100 pages long which makes it a good choice for starting with reading in English.
3. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
At times it’s very random but it’s fun, and you will quickly get intrigued by the story of space travels, aliens and many wonderfully crazy characters. As some of the language may be difficult for learners, I would recommend this book for more advanced readers.
If you are a literature lover (or if you want to broaden your knowledge about books and culture),
I would be more than happy to help you discover beauty and benefits of reading stories in English.
