I always thought that polyglots were rare creatures, even the name sounds bizarre. Polyglot. It sounds like a character from a science fiction movie. However, these people are not from a genre which deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts, but they are real people. People who learn multiple languages and become fluent without seemingly any problem. But how do they do it?
It’s actually no rocket science according to polyglot Lydia Machova, to learn a new language you only need to do one thing – find a way to enjoy learning it. I was sceptical at first too. But really it is that simple.
Alongside finding a way to enjoy it, the important thing is to have a plan for your language learning so it will eventually become part of your everyday life.
As well as teaching English through Oxinity, I am also learning Spanish. I love the conversational approach Oxinity offers when learning a language as it is exactly what I need for living in Spain. And it’s fun. I do it twice a week for 30 minutes and alongside this I am reading a book in Spanish and tasking myself with reading a page a day. It might not seem like a lot, but every little really does help!
‘poco a poco’ as they say in Spain! (Little by little…)
I really found this Ted Talk to be super inspiring and motivating when it comes to understanding how to learn a new language. I hope you do too!
