The Mr. Men are named using adjectives. They are a series of books written by Roger Hargreaves. His son, Adam, became the illustrator and explains how it all started in the short video above. The Mr. Men are loved worldwide.
What are adjectives?
Adjectives are words that describe the qualities or states of being of nouns:
enormous, silly, yellow, fun, fast.
They can also describe the quantity of nouns:
many, few, millions, eleven.
Do you know what clumsy means? Or topsy turvey? Are you greedy or a chatterbox? Maybe your son is cheeky or clever. Do you daydream a lot, is your friend dizzy? Is your neighbour nosey or snooty?
Jobs: Being a stubborn person, because he never agrees/empathizes with anyone. He never apologizes and lies to everyone about everything especially when he is wrong.
Notice how the shape and colour have a huge influence on the appearance of each character?
Why do we think of yellow as a happy colour? Or red as strong, maybe danger. Blue is cold and Orange is fun.
Round is a jolly shape. Square more serious.
I love how colours are such an important part of English and combined with words they become so expressive.
