The 3 skills successful CEOs need are not taught in schools
Sir Richard Branson is the founder of the Virgin Group with over 400 companies spanning multiple sectors with over 71,000 employees in 45 countries. He has achieved this with an “outside the box” way of thinking. A perfect example is the unorthodox skills he looks for in all his CEO’s:
“Many children are set up to fail by a system that only cares about exam results”
Struggling with school due to suffering from dyslexia, his success came from dropping out of school and following his passion, a path that many other business leaders have followed, including Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs.”
“Children are taught to pass exams rather than understand concepts and expand their minds”
However he does emphasise that he doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pursue an education. Rather, he describes it as “calling attention to the benefits of learning from the school of life.”
He is known to have strong views on the education system, which is apparent in the following statement:
“Children are taught to pass exams rather than understand concepts and expand their minds. This push to cram rather than understand is hugely problematic. To prepare students to become the next business leaders they must be fully equipped with the “power of knowledge”
The video above shows us what he would write to his younger self. Make use of the few seconds it takes to watch, it could change your life.
Some inspiring Richard Branson quotes:
“The simple fact is that nobody ever learned anything by listening to themselves speak.”
“Finding something frustrating and seeing an opportunity to make it better is what entrepreneurship is all about.”
“In order to grow, you must be able to let go.”
“If your eyes are fixed on the rear-view mirror, you'll miss that important turn coming up.”
"We spend most of our waking lives at work, so it's important that we do what we love and love what we do.”
And the finaly, my favourite, these are the principles my partners and I follow in Oxinity…..
“Finding the spotlight isn't about standing in it. There's so much to be gained from working with people who support each other to achieve great things.”
