Adverbs Of Time
Adverbs of time tell you when something happened. They express a point in time.
They are used to talk about the past, the present and the future!
To talk about the past we can use words like:
- yesterday, the day before, ago, last week/month/year
Examples
1. I went to the grocery store yesterday, I was unable to go last week.
2. Last month was my birthday, we had a big party.
3. I saw her a few weeks ago, she's doing well.
4. I think her birthday was 3 days ago, we definently missed it.
5. Did you attend the meeting last week?
To talk about the present we can use words like:
- still, yet, while, when
Examples
1. I still haven't be able to go to the theatre, work has been so busy!
2. I'll call you after when I get home.
3. I haven't met him yet, he seems really nice though.
4. I spoke to him for a few minutes while I was there.
5. Are you still feeling sick today?
To talk about the future we can use words like:
- soon, then, next week/month/year, in acouple days, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow
Examples
1. I'm going on holiday next month.
2. I have hair appointment in acouple days.
3. I'll do it really soon! I promise!
4. What are you doing the day after tomorrow? Want to go to the movies?
5. I'm taking acouple of days off next week so I won't be able to help you.
Adverbs of time can also tell you how long something will last,or how long it lasted.
- since, 1 hour, 2 weeks, 3 months, 1 year (just some options)
Examples
1. I haven't seen him for 5 years.
2. Last month I went on vacation for 3 weeks.
3. I haven't spoke to her since last Christmas.
4. Do you have any plans for 3 months from now?
5. I'll be there in 2 hours!
