Pleased to meet you! by @linkstoenglish - Mark Venning · Profesor de inglés

Pleased to meet you!

Introductions are usually quite awkward when people don’t know each other very well. Think of pimply teenage boys nervously approaching pretty girls at the school disco or nervous junior employees getting to know their new colleagues who already seem to have their own circles of work friends firmly formed.

Speaking a foreign language can be awkward too. Especially if you think people around you are judging you. But wait, are they really? And what is really holding a lot of learners of English back when it comes to speaking? Is it poor grammar, lack of vocabulary or lack of confidence?

While it is vital not to be misunderstood due to mispronunciation or misplaced prepositions, an unconfident speaker will rarely be as appreciated as much as a fluent speaker who peppers their language with the odd grammatical or even structural mistake, whether at work or on holiday. Fluency is key.

If we meet for classes, I will help you lose the classic “vergüenza” that many Spanish people have when it comes to speaking, as well as showing you how to make English a part of your everyday life, turn your passive vocabulary into active vocabulary (while expanding it) and open your ear to the sounds of spoken English.

Oh, and pleased to meet you!

And seeing as this is our first meeting, let me translate that into Spanish for you, for the first and last time! wink

Teaching English to children is...... a mixed bag of emotions!

I find it very gratifying when a young student 'gets it' . A child who has been so frustrated but put their heart and soul into practicing their Achilles’ heel. But, why do some just give up, they do not go the extra mile, it doesn’t matter. Or does it?
